Pre-Anaesthetic Options

At the time of booking your pets operation you may be asked to confirm some specific details tailored to your pet’s needs. Prior to all anaesthetics we recommend an in-house pre-anaesthetic blood test to check for organ function such as the kidneys and liver. We require a blood test for geriatric patients as organ function can start to reduce for animals over the age of 8 (depending on the breed). For routine procedures on young dogs and cats you may opt out of this blood test.

Our trained team will also ask if you would like your pet to have intravenous fluid therapy on the day of surgery. Fluid therapy is recommended as it helps organs process the drugs given during the surgery and maintains the animals blood pressure therefore improves recovery. Again, you may opt out of fluid therapy for your pet unless they are classified as geriatric.
